The Spanish explorers discovered the pineapple in the tropical regions of the Americas and brought the fruit to Europe. Thinking pineapples looked like pine cones, they called them “Piña” – Spanish for pine cones. The British added “apple” to the translation and the tropical fruit’s English name was made!
